April 2007
Aloha Friends.
April went by fast. The weather is getting warmer and the spring breezes are up. We are currently fostering both kittens and puppies (along with their moms) and also adopted another dog so there are lots of animal photos this month. Our friend Teri from San Marcos spent a couple of weeks with us and we had a visit from our friend Eric who is building a home here on Maui. We hope you enjoy the photos.
- Jim and one of the kittens are playing. She is a very sweet kitten and we hate to send her back for adoption.
- Cynthia worked at another mobile adoption for the Maui Humane Society. We adopted one from this group.
- Our friend Terri (left) just bought a brand new home and Cynthia attended the “Blessing” while Jim was serving on Jury Duty.
- We know how to relax on a nice afternoon.
- This is Rosie and her babies. They are only two days old here.
- This is Kona and two of her kittens. My brother and his girlfriend Denise adopted her and one kitten.
- Rosie is this years “Spokesdog” for the Bark in the Park fundraiser. You will hear more about that later.
- Rosie’s pups are very big compared to her but not so big compared to a soda can.
- This red Torch Ginger is growing next to the stairway.
- One of the kittens enjoys the basket to sleep and hide in.
- Two of the kittens are cuddled up.
- We had some beautiful sunsets this month. We have so many that I forget to take photos.
- The puppies are growing and it is getting difficult for Rosie to feed them all.
- She is happy when they finally settle down.
- We occasionally get a spider in the house. This one was about six inches across.
- The Antheriums seem to love this spot under the Ginger
- This one really looks happy.
- This little Gecko is sporting a new tail. He probably lost it to one of the cats.
- It is getting harder for Kona for feed all the kittens too.
- The pineapple top is sprouting roots and is about ready to be planted.
- Here is one of the puppies at about four days old.
- Now the puppies are getting pretty big and Rosie is wishing she had stayed home that special evening.
- Just plain cute.
- Another new pineapple is on the way.
- This one is getting larger and should be ready in a few months.
- It’s getting to be quite the pineapple patch.
- This little guy has made a home on the table.
- Here we are with most of the dogs.
- Hannah is glad she never had pups.
- Hannah and Tipper love the puppies and seem like they want to help take care of them.
- Our friend Teri is playing with the puppies.
- Cynthia is playing with our newest adoptee, Jill.
- Our friend Eric, from Yorba Linda, was here to meet with his architect. He is building a home here. He wanted to fly over the property and invited me to come along. Thanks Eric.
- Eric’s property is on the northeast part of the island at the 1500’ elevation. The road is a bit…. Iffy.
- Some of the cliffs on the way to his property.
- The coast is steep and rough but very beautiful there.
- This is Eric’s lot and you can just make out the outline of where the house will be.
- Then we flew over towards our home. This is Kahului harbor with a cruise ship docked.
- Then we flew passed Iao Valley.
- The valley between north and south Maui is planted with Sugar Cane.
- This is along the north Kihei coast. The arrow points to our condo where my brother Craig lives.
- We are just about to turn inland from south Kihei. Here you see Kamaole 1, 2 and 3 beach parks and at the bottom is Kihei boat ramp.
- Our house is in the middle.
- This is Kamaole 3 beach where we can be found three or four mornings a week.
- The coast is beautiful here. There is a small boat moored just of the beach. We have seen whales breaching just off this boat.
- Back to the airport we fly over the sugar mill, which is a major landmark.
- The puppies are growing, Cynthia loves puppies.
- Hannah loves the puppies too.
- By now two kittens have gone to one family and Craig and Denise have adopted a kitten and the mom cat. These two are staying until we are sure they will be adopted.
- The puppies are getting bigger quickly.
- Cynthia is explaining to Hannah how important her babysitting is to us.
- Rosie is teaching the little one how to eat “big dog” food.
- Shy.
- Not so shy.
- The water hyacinth in the fountain has an early morning bloom starting.
- The coconut tree is loaded with nuts.
- Typical day at the beach, riding waves with Teri and Craig.
- Artist Bill Myric took Teri on his bike and we went for a gorgeous ride. The weather was crystal clear.
- Coastline looking towards Kahului.
- Bill and Teri.
- One of the beaches on the east shore.
- Iao Valley in the background.
- Nice place for a home.
- Cynthia had a great idea for feeding a bunch of puppies that shove each other out of the way. She says the idea seemed better on paper.
- Hannah and Jill are wondering if they will leave any.
- The water hyacinth is in full bloom. The flower only lasts one day which is too bad, they are beautiful.
- Flower in the pond.
- This large toad sits and sings at night. He sounds more like a cooing dove than a toad.
